An online platform where artists can upload their music and easily share it with millions of users worldwide to reach a wider audience.
Turning Up The Sound
You sign up for a SoundCloud account by using any existing Facebook or Google credentials you have or with an email address. If you sign up using another account, you can set up a new password later, but if you use an email you have to input a valid password before continuing.
The password has to be at least six characters long. There are no other restrictions imposed. You don’t have to use mixed cases or add numerals or symbols, and the system does not scan for the most commonly used passwords.
Safe and Sound
Currently, you cannot use any of the more common features for securing access to your SoundCloud account. You cannot choose to browse the site through SSL (https browsing) by default, and there’s yet no option for setting up two-factor authentication either.
You can easily edit your password through SoundCloud’s settings page as well as review and control the accounts that are linked to your SoundCloud and are accessing information from it. There is also a ‘stealth mode’ you can enable that makes you invisible to other users while listening to their sounds.
To access security settings on SoundCloud, click on the gear icon at the top-right corner of the screen and click on ‘Account Settings’ from the drop-down menu. On the Settings page, click on the ‘Connections’ tab to manage your linked account or the ‘Account’ tab to change your password. Finally, the ‘Privacy’ tab lets you switch on stealth mode as well as control who can contact you on SoundCloud.
Heard It Through The Grapevine
SoundCloud collects a variety of information from your account, some of it you provide yourself and other information is collected automatically through your activities on the site. Whilst most of this information is shared within SoundCloud to help users connect and use services, some personal data may be disclosed to third parties. SoundCloud can disclose information to external accounts you have linked to your SoundCloud account with your consent. There may also be instances where SoundCloud shares some information with third party companies that are engaged to provide specialised services.
Deleting your SoundCloud account is very straightforward and all the personal data related to your account will be completely removed.
To delete your SoundCloud account, click the gear icon at the top-right of the screen and select ‘Account Settings’ from the drop-down list. On the Settings Page, select the ‘Account’ tab and then click on the ‘Delete account’ button. You need to enter your password before you can continue and check a box to show you understand that this move will be permanent. Click on the ‘Delete my account’ button to complete the process.
So far, there have been no news reports of major security breaches in SoundCloud’s system.

Keeping Tabs On Your Data
SoundCloud provides limited tools to help users keep tabs on their personal data. You can manage any linked accounts and the type of data that is being published on them through SoundCloud, but that is the extent of user control permitted so far.
